I'm Amy G. I grew up in the greater Detroit area and headed west when I graduated college. I spent my teens, 20's and 30's doing unhealthy things to my body and emotions and I've been trying to break those habits ever since. I started running when I was 46 and ran my first marathon when I was 47. Having completed 30 marathons in 18 states, I finally admitted that I'd like to complete all 50 states. Whether running, cycling or swimming I'm a front of the back of the packer who would love to be a back of the middle of the packer. My belief is that you can't wait for motivation, you have to get out there whether you want to or not. My natural inclination is to veg on the sofa with a good book while eating junk and drinking wine. My regular blog, RunnerGirlKnits, is my diary of trying to find my balance.
I started knitting a few years ago because I was traveling frequently (to races) and needed something to do in airports and on airplanes. I consider myself a non-adventurous knitter, mostly enjoying mindless repetition over intense scrutiny of patterns (although I've done that too). I've knit a million scarves, a gazillion hats, a few shawls and some fingerless mitts. I'm hoping some day to graduate to sweaters and socks and that will come in time. I have a huge stash of yarn, comprised of multiple bins of Malabrigo (mmmmmmalabrigo!), felting wools, hand dyed specialties of all weights and some luxurious cashmere and silk. Since I knit so slowly there's no way I could ever use all of it, even if I live to be 101 like my granny did.
